Josh Berry recently opened up about the unexpected and, frankly, exhausting interest in his tangential link to the Taylor on the Rubbin’ Is Racin podcast. And due to his tone, it’s clear that Berry has had enough. “It’s one of those things when you’re doing an interview one day and somebody’s like, ‘Hey, what’s a funny, crazy story about you?’” Berry recalled.

“I’m like, ‘Oh, I went to school with Taylor Swift.’ You don’t think that’s that big of a deal. But good gosh, man. It never ends.” Berry and Swift both attended Henderson High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee. However, their time there barely overlapped. Swift left after her sophomore year to pursue music full-time and continue her education via homeschooling.
Meanwhile, Berry, kept his focus on racing, grinding through the ranks to eventually earn a full-time seat in the NASCAR Cup Series. “I didn’t really know her. I know of somebody who knew her kind of deal,” he clarified. Despite not being close, Berry finds himself being roped into Swift-related headlines and conversations time and time again. “Then she starts dating Travis Kelce and it all comes back again,” Berry said.
“I’m like, ‘I don’t care about Travis Kelce. He has nothing to do with me.’ It just never ends.” His frustration with the situation was evident. It was the kind that builds from years of being asked the same thing over and over. Berry’s not frustrated with Swift herself or even with Kelce; he’s just unhappy with the constant nagging. “I just think it’s funny how something so small turns into this big thing,” Berry added.

While Josh Berry’s comments about Swift put him in the headlines again, it’s important to appreciate his own journey. Berry has carved out a respectable path. After years in the lower-tier Xfinity Series and working as a short-track specialist, he earned his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas. It was a massive personal milestone in 2024.

Still, it’s clear that even that impressive win has struggled to overshadow his accidental association with America’s most talked-about couple. “I’ve had way more interviews about Taylor Swift than my actual racing,” Berry joked. “Which is… fine, I guess? But also kind of weird.” As Swift and Kelce’s relationship continues to dominate the internet, Berry has accepted the fact that this topic isn’t going away anytime soon.
However, he also made it clear that there’s no beef, no scandal, and no secret stories he has about the pop star. In fact, what seems to frustrate Berry the most isn’t Swift herself at all. It’s how little he has to add to it, and yet how often he’s asked to. “It’s like people are hoping I’ve got this great behind-the-scenes scoop,” he said. “But I don’t. We were just kids in the same building. That’s it.”
