Lung Cancer Grips America
The United States has been grappling with lung cancer as one of the most prominent diseases in the country. It is the top disease that leads to several casualties each year in the county, accounting for about 1 in 5 of all cancer deaths.
Although smoking is the top reason for causing lung cancer, it is possible for a non-smoker to get diagnosed with the disease. People who don’t smoke can be diagnosed with the disease because of exposure to radon, passive smoking, air pollution, or other factors, as per the American Cancer Society.
If diagnosed at an early stage, the disease is preventable with 70 percent of patients surviving it. However, if it spreads to other parts of the body, lung cancer can prove to be fatal for the patient with a survival rate as low as five percent.
