With the release of Taylor Swift‘s latest album ‘The Tortured Poets Department‘, one of her ex-boyfriends Matty Healy has gained some sudden limelight because of some of her songs directed at the lead singer of ‘The 1975‘. After Swift dedicated at least three tracks of her album to Healy as per her fans, the details of their short relationship were out in the open.
Though Healy has not publicly reacted to the songs so far, his aunt recently implied that Taylor is not telling the whole story of her relationship with him. She contended that she knows “a bit more about what went on“. Though Taylor herself never directly said the songs were about Healy, her fans have seemingly guessed it right given Healy’s aunt’s response. Moreover, an old video of him has resurfaced and is making rounds on social media which is all the more proof about him being the infamous man in her songs.

“I Really Like Typewriters”: Matty Healy’s Video Confirms Fan Theories About Taylor Swift’s Tracks Being Based On Him
With the much-anticipated release of ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ on April 19, Taylor Swift’s fans are busy dissecting every lyric, searching for clues about the inspirations behind Swift’s heartfelt songs. Though it was already clear that the album’s core theme would be love and heartbreak, many had also guessed Joe Alwyn to be the man who inspired the album. However, Matty Healy, a British singer who dated Taylor Swift for about a month, popped up in her songs when no one was expecting it.
Matty Healy, the frontman of ‘The 1975‘, has since gained much relevance on social media and Swift’s fans. In a resurfaced clip from a December 2018 interview with GQ, Healy can be heard discussing his fondness for typewriters, and the sense of commitment and concentration they evoke.
“It’s not that there’s any kind of like, romance to having a notebook, but I really like typewriters, as well,” he says in the old video re-posted by GQ on TikTok.
“I don’t have one with me because that is really impractical, but the thing is with typewriters and writing on pen to paper, there’s kind of an element of like commitment that goes with the ceremony of it. Therefore, it requires you to concentrate a bit better,” he adds. “It’s mainly, like, stories that I write about my dreams of being in love with other pop stars.”

‘The Tortured Poets Department’ Is Taylor Swift’s Tale Of Love And Heartbreak Involving Her British Ex-Lovers
Many of Taylor Swift’s lyrics in several songs point at Matty Healy, including the title track ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, which specifically mentions a lover with a typewriter. “You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the tortured poets department,” Taylor sings. The resurfaced video of Healy has therefore reassured fans that their guess about Healy is absolutely correct.
Swift’s lyrics for Matty Healy stem from their brief romance in 2023, right after her split from Joe Alwyn and before her current relationship with Travis Kelce. Taylor also makes references to some of Healy’s favorite bands in her lyrics as well as his iconic black suit that he wears during his performances.
Other than Healy, the album is largely based on her relationship and heartbreak Joe Alwyn, whom the pop sensation dated for a long time. She has also made a reference to her newfound love with Travis Kelce evident in several tracks.
‘The Tortured Poets Department’ holds some heavy significance for Taylor Swift as she has mentioned being very emotional while writing the songs. However, she is seemingly proud of her achievement, as a source close to Swift revealed recently. “She has put her heart and soul into the music, just like with everything she does,” the source was quoted as saying by Page Six. “She can’t wait for her fans to listen to it and to share it with them.”
