Orlando Bloom, the heartthrob fans remember for bringing the elf Legolas to life in ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy, just dropped a major tease. As Warner Bros. gears up for a new round of Middle-earth movies, Bloom revealed that he’s had a chat with none other than ‘Gollum‘ himself, Andy Serkis.
Fans of the franchise know that Bloom’s portrayal of the bow-wielding Legolas was a standout in both ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘ trilogies. So, it’s no surprise that he’s excited about the idea of returning.
Bloom Orlando’s Take On His Potential Return
During an interview with Variety, Orlando Bloom was asked about the possibility of stepping back into Legolas’ pointy shoes. His response? “Oh, man, those things are amazing. Yeah. I don’t know how they’d do it. I guess with AI you can do anything these days. But, if Pete [Peter Jackson] says jump, I say, ‘How high?’ I mean, he started my whole career.”
Bloom didn’t stop there. He revealed that he’s already spoken to Andy Serkis, who’s set to direct ‘The Hunt for Gollum‘. It’s the first in a new series of live-action ‘Lord of the Rings‘ movies.
According to Bloom, Serkis mentioned AI could play a role in the new films. “I really don’t know what [they are planning]“. Bloom continued, “I did speak to Andy [Serkis] and he did say they were thinking about how to do things. I was like, ‘How would that even work?’ And he was like, ‘Well, AI!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, OK!’ It was a pretty magical time in my life, and it’s one of those things where there’s not a downside to it.”
The AI part might sound a little weird, but if it means we get to see Bloom as Legolas again, who’s really complaining? And if Peter Jackson is back in the producer’s seat alongside Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, it sounds like this could be the next big adventure for Tolkien fans.
What We Know About The New ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Movies?
While Bloom doesn’t have all the details yet, ‘The Hunt for Gollum‘ is set to be released in 2026, and Andy Serkis will be reprising his iconic role as Gollum/Sméagol. This film will kick off a brand-new era of Middle-earth, and Peter Jackson is on board as producer – so you know it’s going to be epic.

But Bloom isn’t the only star from the original cast hinting at a comeback. Ian McKellen, the legendary actor who played Gandalf, recently confirmed he’s been approached for the new films.
“I’ve just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I’ll be playing him,” McKellen said earlier this month. “When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick!“
