Kate Moss and Pete Doherty were “not really compatible,” according to the musician. Even though the two dated for years, Pete said that their romance was never truly “sustainable”. Despite the issues, the relationship went on for a long period of time.
So, what was the issue? Why did they break up? Doherty has answered it all in his upcoming book, ‘A Likely Lad’, written by Doherty and Simon Spence. “There wasn’t really one single incident that ended the relationship,” recalled Pete, who battled drug addiction for the course of their partnership. In the end, he believes their worlds were incompatible. There were several mishaps.
Pete Doherty Says Relationship With Kate Moss Was “Destructive”
Talking about how his relationship with Kate Moss crumbled, Doherty shared, “She had this panic button by her bed and a panic button in the kitchen. One day, when she was away somewhere and I was scrabbling down by the side of the bed, for a dropped rock probably, I accidentally pressed the panic button and 12 armed police ended up at the cottage in St John’s Wood. She was really unhappy about things like that. It became a running battle, really, that relationship. It was always the same, for all those years: highs and then crushing, violent lows. It was not sustainable.”
The singer’s life has been negatively impacted by their “destructive” relationship. Their relationship ended with Doherty admitting to getting “nasty.” He added, “I’m quite fragile, really, within myself. That kind of destructive relationship, there’s nothing glamorous about it – it wears you down in the end and turns you nasty.”
The Musician Maintains That He Really Loved The Model
Pete explains all of this in his new memoir, an excerpt of which was published in the Guardian: “Within myself, I’m extremely vulnerable. There’s nothing sexy about a relationship like this one, which eventually wears you down and makes you mean.” The catwalk sensation was “really loved” by Pete at one point, he said.
Pete further stated, “We were attracted to each other. I really loved her, and I knew she loved me – there was just all this messiness in between us, with all her chaos and my chaos.”
