Actress Reese Witherspoon recently shared information about the upcoming film ‘Legally Blonde 3’. She said that the film ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ starring Tom Cruise, was the source of inspiration for the third part of the Legally Blonde franchise.
The actress, now 46 years old, is scheduled to reprise her role as Elle Woods in the long-awaited follow-up to 2003’s ‘Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde,’ which was the sequel to the first film from 2001.

Reese Witherspoon Says ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Has Provided “A Lot of Inspiration”
The defining moment for Reese Witherspoon’s character, Elle Woods, is being sparked by an unexpected source of inspiration. During her conversation with USA Today for an interview that was published on Friday, Witherspoon offered a few hints about the current state of production for the long-rumored third installment in the Legally Blonde film series.
The actress has stated that she did not give up hope that the sequel will be produced and that the recent success of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ has helped to inspire new ideas for the production team working on her movie.
“I’m still hoping that Legally Blonde 3 is gonna come together in the right way,” she stated. “It’s just like Top Gun: They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it. So definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had all those same touchstones that mattered to people back then.”
Witherspoon also stated, “I feel like these characters are my friends, so I safeguard them. I would never make the subpar, mediocre version of their story.”
‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Made It To Theaters 36 Years After The Original 1986 Blockbuster
Tom Cruise reprised his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the sequel to the hit film ‘Top Gun’ which was released in May, 36 years after Cruise’s debut in the role in the first film. Maverick, which was directed by Joseph Kosinski and starred Tom Cruise, has become Cruise’s first picture to break the one-billion-dollar milestone at the worldwide box office. The film also topped $600 million at the American box office earlier this month.
When the film was first released in theaters in July of 2001, Robert Luketic’s Legally Blonde gave fans their first look at Reese Witherspoon’s improbable portrayal of a Harvard Law student named Elle Woods. After a delay of two years, a sequel was eventually released.
In 2018, Witherspoon said that she was in discussions to reprise her role as Elle for the third installment of the Legally Blonde film franchise. Two years later, Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor were hired to write the script for the film.
