Robert Downey Jr. Was Concerned Playing Iron Man For 11 Years Might Affect Acting Skills
In a recent interview with The New York Times, Robert Downey Jr revealed that he was worried that playing Iron Man for 11 years might destroy his acting skills. When asked if he had any concerns about what effect playing Iron Man for 11 years might have on his acting, Downey Jr. replied, “Yes. 100%, and I knew there was a point where Christopher Nolan was endorsing, let’s work those other muscles, but let’s do it while rendering you devoid of your usual go-to things.”
The Marvel star also added, “I did not have the luxury of wondering what the longer-term repercussions of coming in as a second-tier superhero for something that was going to build out into a cinematic universe would be — and it didn’t matter because I had a Super Bowl ring on each finger while this debate was being contested with much heat.”
It is no secret that MCU has contributed to Robert Downey Jr.’s ladder of success in the film industry. He further said, “So coming from that other place, entering the box-office weekend-dominating place, then going into this spot now where I’m happy that I’m in this quality product — I’m happy that I regained my connection with a more purist approach to making movies.”

Robert Downey Jr. Almost Lost The Role Of Iron Man
The former Marvel Studio president David Maisel told The New Yorker recently, “My board thought I was crazy to put the future of the company in the hands of an addict. I helped them understand how great he was for the role. We all had confidence that he was clean and would stay clean.”
It would have been very hard to contemplate any other actor paying the tech genius, playboy Tony Stark. Robert Downey Jr. nearly missed out on the role of Iron Man. RDJ was still in consideration for Hollywood during the casting process for Iron Man. He was arrested in April 1996 for possession of heroin, cocaine, and an unloaded gun. Marvel was deciding between him or Timothy Olyphant to cast as Iron Man and the rest is history.
