What Was The Monumental Moment That Led Queen Elizabeth II To Write A Secret Letter?
The secret letter that was written by the late Queen was neither written for her nor her family. It was addressed to the citizens of Sydney, Australia. The monarch wrote the letter back in 1986 to celebrate that year’s restoration of Sydney, Australia’s Queen Victoria Building.
This monument was originally built in 1898 and honors the Diamond Jubilee of Elizabeth’s great-grandmother Queen Victoria. However, what exactly is in the letter isn’t known yet. There are specific instructions for Sydney’s lord mayor in that letter left by the late Queen.
It read, “On a suitable day to be selected by you in the year 2085 AD, would you please open this envelope and convey to the citizens of Sydney my message to them.”
Why Did The Queen Write The Letter?
It’s safe to guess that the Queen would have thanked the city’s residents for saving the building. The building was almost demolished in favor of a parking lot. Seeing how the late Queen was very sentimental about her great-grandmother’s building, this is one of the safest guesses.
There is also another guess that the Queen might have requested for the building to be safe forever. In 1986, a Malaysian company signed a 99-year lease on the edifice until 2085. The lease ends the same year the Queen’s letter is to be opened and made public.
Hence, there’s a high chance that the late Queen might have asked for the lease to be continued so that the building can stay safe. What do you think the late Queen Might have written in the letter?
