Elon Musk, the interim CEO of Twitter, has come out with a new revelation about the microblogging site’s usage. Among many controversies, it has come to sight that the company, under previous owners, sold the coveted Twitter verification “blue tick” to many individuals for thousands of dollars.
The CEO of Tesla bought the blogging site for a price of $44 billion. The deal had begun on April 14, 2022, and finally concluded on October 27, 2022. In a tweet by the billionaire himself, he claimed that he did not buy the company “to make more money,” but instead did it to help humanity.

In a recent tweet, some allegations were brought out by a user, that some employees were selling the verification badge to people for amounts as high as $15000. As we can see in the tweet, user @WSBChairman is seen putting up the allegation and asking for investigations, to which Elon Musk confirmed by replying “Yup“.
The question was responded to by the CEO himself, confirming that some previous officials had indeed carried out such acts. The verification badge of Twitter, the blue tick, was indeed issued to some individuals without any proper qualifications if they were able to pay for it.

Musk Is Determined To Revamp Twitter
After the takeover of the $44 million deal, Elon Musk has set out to revamp many things in the company, including its verification process. The Tesla CEO tagged this new verification process as “power to the people.” In this, any Twitter user can get the Twitter hallmark of verification, the blue tick, irrespective of their level of significance.
Only thing is that they would have to pay a sum of $8 a month to the company providing this service. This system is said to create a more level of equality than the old one in which certain people proved to be of higher prominence. As mentioned in The Guardian, Twitter has already started this $8/month since last Saturday.
