The inspiration for the new song came during an early screening of Pixar’s ‘Toy Story 5.’ Impressed by the depth of the plot, the ‘Lover‘ singer decided to contact her longtime co-writer and music producer, Jack Antonoff, as the duo “talk about Toy Story all the time” and how the movie “really shaped our childhood.”

Realizing they were both “Toy Story kids” who grew up under the impact of the 1995 masterpiece, Swift issued a clear ultimatum: they needed to hit the studio right away.

In a recent interview on Good Morning America, the ‘Fate of Ophelia‘ singer emphasized, “I called him up, and I just really quickly blurted out like, ‘I got to see the new Toy Story. I have to tell you all about the film, but we need to write this song. We need to write this song. I was so excited.'”

“It was such a frenetic form of excitement that I just blathered out, like, ‘We have to write this song,'” she added.

After presenting their new track to the audience with a live performance, the ‘Ophelia‘ singer surprised everyone with an invitation for Randy Newman to join the stage and perform the duet of his famous original.

“It means the world to me to be a small part of the universe of these films,” the popstar said to the audience.
