MacLaine stated, “He [Jack Nicholson] just made me laugh all the time. He was one of my favorite people.” She continued, “I don’t think he would’ve been my type to have an affair with anyway. I would laugh too much.” Both actors won Academy Awards for their performance in ‘Terms of Endearment’.

While discussing her memoir, MacLaine revealed that she loved dancing and wanted to become a dancer instead of an actor. Moreover, Shirley turned down the marriage proposal of her first love, George Huvos to pursue her career in dancing.
She said, “I did seriously consider it. I remember coming back on a long train ride from outside the city, mulling over the idea the whole way.” However, Shirley decided, “My reason for not saying yes was about my career. I was already thinking that way then. I don’t regret it.”
