Superhit Roles Scarlett Johansson Missed Out That Would’ve Transformed Her Career

Scarlett Johansson may have won our hearts as the Black Widow in the MCU movies, but she, too, had a crisis of faith. The actress has opened up about how missing out on ‘Gravity’ made her question her career. She was up for the part of Ryan Stone that went to Sandra Bullock.

Johansson talked about having a difficult time transitioning from bombshell roles to substantial dramatic parts. While she’s thankful for ‘Iron Man 2,’ it wasn’t enough of an endorsement to advance her career. Like ‘Gravity,’ her career has been full of missed opportunities that would have made her a movie star long ago.

Scarlett Johansson On Not Getting ‘Gravity’

The MCU actress wondered about her career after losing ‘Gravity’ to Sandra Bullock

In her latest Variety profile, Scarlett Johansson talked about all things Marvel and how her career would have looked different. Apart from her high-profile lawsuit with Disney, she spoke of the disappointment following missing out on ‘Gravity.’ It was between her and Blake Lively before Sandra Bullock took over the role. This was when she began to question the direction of her career.

Scarlett Johansson told the outlet, “I got turned down for two roles — the first was ‘Iron Man 2’ and then the other one was Alfonso Cuarón’s ‘Gravity.’I had wanted that role so much. It was sort of the straw that broke the camel’s back. I felt really frustrated and hopeless. Like, ‘Am I doing the right job?’”

Which Other Major Roles Did Scarlett Johansson Miss Out On?

The MCU actress lost ‘Les Misérables’ to Anne Hathaway

Scarlett Johansson has had a remarkable career with notable film roles. However, in her case, the ones that got away were the roles that could have changed how her career could have looked. Long before ‘Gravity,’ the ‘Lost In Translation’ actress would lose ‘Jumanji’ to Kirsten Dunst at the age of 11.

Another big break was interrupted when the ‘Lost In Translation’ had laryngitis on the day of her ‘Les Misérables’ screen test. The role went to Anne Hathaway, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Due to scheduling conflicts, she also turned down playing Daisy Buchanan opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in ‘The Great Gatsby.’
