Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce did not go small for their long-awaited wedding. The couple reportedly welcomed more than 1,000 friends and family members to Madison Square Garden on July 3, but the huge guest list was only one part of the story.

A wedding expert has now broken down the possible bill for the star-packed celebration, and the final estimate could reach an incredible $30 million or more.

Just Preparing The Venue Could Have Eaten Up Millions

Turning one of New York’s best-known arenas into a wedding space was likely a major operation before any guest even arrived. Esther Lee, editorial director at The Knot Worldwide, compared the scale of the event with what most couples usually spend. “While the average American wedding sits at $34,000, according to The Knot Real Weddings Study, this production would’ve operated on a completely different scale,” she told Page Six.

A large part of the budget may have gone into simply getting Madison Square Garden ready. Lee estimated that the groundwork, combined with several days needed to bring everything into the venue and later remove it, could have landed between $5 million and $10 million. Flowers and visual changes may have required another fortune. “We estimate the decor and florals to be, at minimum, $5 million,” Lee said. “Not to forget that custom draping and carpet installation had to transform the space entirely.”

Feeding such a huge crowd was another expensive task. Catering and service for more than 1,000 people could have reached between $2.5 million and $3 million, while branding and entertainment added further costs. Taking the wider production into account, Lee said the “total cost sits in the $20 million to $30+ million range, cementing it as a massive economic engine for the local New York economy and broader wedding industry at large.”

A venue large enough for the guest list was only part of the challenge. According to Lee, planners handling a wedding packed with famous faces would need to settle “privacy and logistics” early, before spending much time on flowers, colors, or other visual choices. For Swift and Kelce, Madison Square Garden reportedly offered practical advantages few venues could match.

For Taylor and Travis, that meant finding an environment that allowed for total street closures and direct, private vehicle access. That is why Madison Square Garden was a prime choice for the couple on this momentous occasion.”

Designers working on such events also “start with spatial design and figure out how to make a cavernous space feel intimate”. Guests reportedly had another surprise during the night, as games offered chances to win raffle prizes including designer bags, Cartier watches, and a vintage car.

The July 3 ceremony came after Swift and Kelce had dated for three years. Their wedding outfits were created by Christian Dior Haute Couture, and Swift’s representative shared the full details in a statement.

The bride and groom’s wedding ceremony looks have been created by Christian Dior Haute Couture. They are designed by Jonathan Anderson, Creative Director of Dior Women’s, Men’s and Haute Couture Collections, in close collaboration with the Bride and Groom. This is the designer’s first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity. Their shoes were custom-made by Christian Louboutin and the bride wore Cartier jewelry,” the statement reads.

Traditional bridesmaids and groomsmen were not part of the ceremony. Kelce and Swift “did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen” standing beside them and instead gave important roles to their brothers. “Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor’s Man of Honor and Jason Kelce was Travis’ Best Man. The ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler,” the statement concluded.

The reception continued with major performers and a celebrity-heavy crowd. Stevie Nicks performed during the celebration, and reports said Paul McCartney sang a hit Beatles song at one point.
