When you’re the face of a popular superhero franchise, the studio basically locks you down. For years, Tom Holland couldn’t do anything remotely dangerous because his Spider-Man contract with Marvel wouldn’t let him.

But the exact second it was up, he went straight for extreme sports to finally get his adrenaline fix. It may sound scary, but his first real taste of freedom went totally off the rails. It left him heading home with blood all over his face, but Holland couldn’t care less. Here’s what happened.

In December 2021, the cast of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ made guest appearances on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ It included Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Jacob Batalon. Kimmel showed a picture of Cumberbatch skateboarding on set dressed as his Marvel character, Doctor Strange.

This sparked a discussion of the hobbies the other actors pursue and prompted Holland to disclose his own way of unwinding after years under contract for his role as Spider-Man. “I went skiing right after we finished this movie because, you know, my contract is up,” he said.

“So finally I’m allowed to do things I couldn’t do before. So as soon as I finished, I went snowboarding, and I have an amazing photo of me FaceTiming you with blood all over my face,” Holland added, pointing at his girlfriend and co-star Zendaya.

Soon, Zendaya jumped in, revealing how she answered the phone, only to find her boyfriend’s face covered in blood. “I was like, ‘What are you doing? It’s been, like, a week!” she said. Hearing it, Kimmel stated that it was really “actory” of Holland to call the actress instead of a hospital.

But in Holland’s mind, the injury was the slightest of concerns. “Everyone was like, ‘Wipe it off. And I was like, ‘No, I look cool,’” he said. While the British actor’s deal, which he signed at 18, expired after ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ his journey as everyone’s friendly neighborhood was far from over.

In November 2022, Holland reportedly signed a new deal for another ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy, with the first installment, ‘Brand New Day,’ set to arrive in theaters on July 31. Sony Pictures will helm the new three-part series in collaboration with Disney and Kevin Feige’s Marvel Studios.

According to entertainment journalist Jeff Sneider, Holland has also secured at least three more appearances in the MCU as part of the new agreement. Interestingly, the actor once famously told GQ, “If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”

Well, not only did Holland officially turn 30 this year, but he just started another journey as the said superhero and doesn’t seem to have any intentions of stopping. So, is Tom breaking his promise? Not necessarily.

“It’s funny, I saw that quote pop up somewhere recently and I kind of reeled, because I was trying to remember what I meant,” he told GQ in June 2026. “I think the point of it is that I would love to pass the baton on, and I haven’t achieved that yet.”

Holland revealed that he now needs to reset this timeline to 37. “I could also have been trying to leverage Sony and scare them into thinking I wasn’t going to do ‘Spider-Man 4’ now that I had a new deal on the horizon,” he said, reflecting on his thought process at the time.

Later in the conversation, the actor described portraying Spider-Man as the “joy of my life.” He’s so grateful and happy that he would like to do it as long as Marvel would like him to. While we can’t tell how long this adventure lasts, it goes without saying that Holland has completely nailed his part. Agree?
