“That’s Not The One I Had On Friends”: Jennifer Aniston Refutes The Viral TikTok Salad Recipe That She Ate On Friends’ Set

Not everything viral is vital. TikTok is the time machine that is taking us back in time with present-day trends. It has become a tool for major production houses and A-listers to cater to the younger crowd. In the plethora of trends, one trend that has gone viral is that of Jennifer Aniston aka Rachel Green’s go-to lunch salad for 10 years on sets of ‘Friends.’

TikTok user @themodernnonna started the viral trend by adapting the recipe that Jennifer shared during an Instagram takeover of her beauty brand ‘Living Proof.’ Now, the actor has debunked the viral recipe.

Recently, ‘We’re The Millers’ actor did an interview with Elle Magazine. During the interview, she cleared the air around the viral Cobb salad recipe that she ate for 10 years as her go-to lunch on the sets of the hit sitcom ‘Friends.’ She said, “It looks like a delicious salad…but that’s not the one I had on Friends.” Alas! Put the spatula down people!

The ingredients in the viral salad include quinoa, diced cucumber, diced red onions, parsley, mint, chopped pistachios, and feta cheese. The salad has a dressing of olive oil, lemon juice, and lots of chickpeas. The last ingredient is what strips the salad of its originality. In the interview, Jennifer said, “I would never have that much chickpea in a salad, to be honest. Not good for the digestive tract.”

The origin story of Jennifer’s “doctored” Cobb salad is Courtney Cox’s Los Angeles Times interview. During the interview, Cox listed her favorite things on the decade-long journey on the show. While revealing her favorite ritual, Courtney said, “Jennifer and Lisa [Kudrow] and I ate lunch together every single day for 10 years. And we always had the same thing — a Cobb salad.”

The actor revealed that it was Jennifer’s version of the salad, “But it wasn’t really a Cobb salad. It was a Cobb salad that Jennifer doctored up with turkey bacon and garbanzo beans and I don’t know what. She just has a way with food, which really helps. Because if you’re going to eat the same salad every day for 10 years, it’d better be a good salad, right?”

In December 2020, PEOPLE pulled together the recipe from her takeover of ‘Living Proof.’ During her peek into the day, she shared the recipe for her “perfect salad.” Her salad had “Bulgur, cucumbers, parsley, mint, red onion, garbanzo beans, feta cheese, and pistachios.” Talking about the viral trend, Aniston feels sorry for the TikTokers as the trend skyrocketed in no time. “I feel terrible because it’s literally taken off like crazy.”
