Christopher Nolan and his younger brother Jonathan are well-known names in the entertainment industry. But there is a third Nolan brother who made it into the news for all the wrong reasons.

Matthew Nolan, who is Christopher’s elder brother, is allegedly an assassin who was hired to retrieve some money. In the incident that took place in 2010, Matthew allegedly killed his victim.

He was jailed for the crime and attempted to escape the Chicago prison. Matthew was wanted for the murder of an American financier, Robert Cohen who worked for a gem dealer named Robert Breska. Breska had exposed a drug trafficker in the 1980s and was sentenced to jail. His nearly five million dollars went missing for which he blamed Cohen.

Robert Breska hired Matthew Nolan to find Robert Cohen in Costa Rica. Matthew and his partner then tortured Cohen who then died during the process. Several eyewitnesses claimed that they saw Matthew and Cohen together before the latter was kidnapped near a local shopping center.

Later investigations found out that Matthew had flown to Houston, Texas on the same day, then went on to Paris, New York, and finally to Miami. He also used his father’s British phone number for the job.

After getting caught, Matthew made a failed attempt at prison escape. He was then charged with an additional 14 months in jail on top of his previous charges. In addition, the court also ruled that there was insufficient evidence to extradite Matthew to Costa Rica on the kidnapping and murder charges. He went to trial for having fake documents and traveling with a fake name.

Christopher and Jonathan have never spoken about their elder brother publicly. The two are often perceived as private people. It seems that they cut ties with Matthew after he entered a life of crime.
