Former ‘Strictly Come Dancing‘ dancer, Giovanni Di Prima, is going through a rough patch after he was removed from the show by BBC in 2023 for allegations of kicking and hitting his celebrity dance partner, rumored to be former ‘Love Island’ star Zara McDermott.
Prima faced public disgrace because of all the allegations but is now taking a stance against them. The former dancer has claimed that all the allegations are false, as he opened up about how it ruined his life.
Giovanni Di Prima Denies Allegations Made Against Him
Dancer Giovanni Di Prima recently appeared for an interview with Daily Mail, wherein he opened up about the allegations of assault made against him. Completely denying them, the former dancer said that the allegations are “vile and false” and “had ruined his life in a matter of minutes”.
He further asserted that he’s “not an abusive man” and vowed to continue his career in dancing despite the allegations. During the interview, he said he “didn’t deliberately hurt anyone” and doesn’t even know from where Zara McDermott rumors were steamed. He added, “I’m not a monster. I’m not an abusive man”.
Giovanni Di Prima continued, “The only thing I can think of is the time I kicked the floor in frustration. We’d practised hour after hour to perfect a routine with lifts. It wasn’t easy but that’s the pressure of the show”. He further added that his intentions were never to kick his partner.
Soon after the incident, a spokesman for Prima had told the BBC that the kick had taken place. “There is never a time when kicking, or any sense of that is right. He knows he’s made a mistake. He apologized at the time,” the spokesman, Mark Borkowski, said, adding that the training period can be “intense.”

After the allegations, Giovanni Di Prima’s life was ruined; physically, emotionally, and financially. However, in an Instagram post, the supposed victim of the assault, Zara McDermott wrote that she feared, “public backlash” and “victim shaming”.
She continued, “So much of my Strictly experience was everything I could have dreamed of. The entire production team and everyone behind the scenes as well as my fellow contestants were so amazing to work with”.
Zara also added, “However, my experience inside the training room was very different. Reports have been made about my treatment on the show and there were witnesses to some events, as well as videos of particular incidents which are incredibly distressing to watch.”
But Prima is not letting the hate take over him. He’s determined to dance again. He said, “Right now, my reputation is zero and it will take a superhuman effort for me to get up from this hole. But I do believe the truth always wins in the end. I am determined not to let my and my family’s lives be destroyed”.
