‘House of the Dragon‘ has proved to be one of the successful television shows of 2022. The show, which is a prequel to HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones‘, has been well received by critics and audiences. Milly Alcock, who portrays the young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, has also been praised.
Alcock has come a long way from doing low-budget independent films and shows in Australia to doing the massive-budget HBO fantasy show. In a recent interview, the 22-year-old actress talked about her experience shooting the show. She also shared how it was riding the dragons.

Milly Alcock Talks About Riding Dragons In ‘House Of The Dragon’
The first episode of ‘House of the Dragon‘ has so far drawn around 20 million views, becoming the most viewed debut episode for HBO. Milly’s performance has also received widespread praise.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the Australian actress talked about her experience doing the dragon riding scenes. “Someone would take you through the moves of how you’re going to move so you could preempt how the [dragon was going to turn],” she says.
“Then they would pop you up and they’d blow air at you. It was really fun. But I didn’t know what to do with my face [expressions]. I haven’t done any action stuff. You’re not actually moving, you’re just going to … somewhere.”
Controlling the dragon rig was quite difficult as the show uses huge video wall project backgrounds during stage filming. This is unlike the parent show which was filmed with green screens.

Milly Talks About Getting The Physicality Of Rhaenyra Right
Alcock talked about the physicality of the character she plays with the showrunner Ryan Condal. The stillness of the character was something she wanted to get right.
“She’s quite stoic in the way that she like presents herself, and I’m quite a fidgety person,” she says. “And [Ryan and Miguel] kept reminding me that there’s strength in stillness. She doesn’t have to prove herself, she has that status.”
Before getting the show, Milly was doing small independent films and shows in Australia. “It felt like that I had been literally picked up from Australia and someone had just dropped me in the middle of, like, the ocean with nothing around,” she says.
The third episode of ‘House of the Dragon‘ is set to air on Sunday, September 4. It has been renewed for a second season.
