It came as a shock for many when ‘Stranger Things‘ star Millie Bobby Brown got engaged at the age of 20 to her now fiancé Jake Bongiovi, who is also just a year older than her. The couple has been together for a while since they sparked the rumors of their romance in June 2021.
The two got engaged last year in April. While recently speaking on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon‘, Millie Bobby Brown opened up about the adorable details of how Jake Bongiovi popped the question to her. Bongiovi undoubtedly took the art of proposals to new depths quite literally.

Jake Bongiovi Had A Well-Planned Vacation Proposal For Millie Bobbie Brown
Millie Bobbie Brown said that her fiancé Jake Bongiovi proposed to her during a vacation where the two were enjoying diving. “Well, I haven’t told anyone this because there are moments, key moments, but I’m like, ‘Fallon is the best’ and also I think this is too good of a story to not tell,” Brown said.
“Basically, Jake and I bonded over diving. We love diving, we got our driving licenses together.” She added that when they were on vacation, Bongiovi said, “Mil, you got to be up at 8:00 am, we’re going on a dive.”
“I was like, ‘8:am, dive?,’ … And he’s telling me, ‘We’re going to the same spot we usually go to,’” Brown continued. “I’m like, ‘It’s boring, let’s go somewhere new.’ He’s like, ‘No, we have to go to this spot.’”
After they reached there, Millie said they went very deep under the water. “He gives me like a shell and I like turn it over and it’s a ring,” she recalled. “And I like looked at him and he was like,” Brown said as she recreated his facial expression.

Millie Bobbie Brown Says They “Freaked Out” Under Water After The Planned Proposal
Millie Bobbie Brown did not have the perfect reaction to Jake’s proposal as he may have expected. Raising a thumbs up, she said, “This means, ‘up,’ ‘I want to go up.’ So that would technically mean, ‘No, I don’t want to marry you, I want to go up.’”
“So I was like okay,’” Brown explained as she did an “okay” hand symbol. “And I think it was underwhelming but we freaked out,” she added.
“Anyways he puts the ring on my hand and as I go to show him the ring falls off my finger, plummets like so fast, it was like a cinematic movie,” she said. “Jake threw himself, like so deep, like the diver was like, ‘You can’t do that, like your ears … literally your brain will explode.’”
The Enola Holmes star shared that the ordeal added a special touch to the engagement. “I feel like it’s a reflection of who he is, and I feel like we’re always going to have each other’s back, and if anyone drops the ball, we got it,” Brown said.
After saving the ring, he asked for Brown’s hand in marriage. But there was another twist — Bongiovi had sought permission from her mother to use her ring for the proposal. However, her mother’s protective instincts kicked in, and Bongiovi proposed with a different ring underwater.
But he later used her mother’s ring to propose to her on a boat. “So when we got up on the boat he was like, ‘This is your mom’s ring and I got it from your parents,’” Brown recalled. “And it was very magical and his parents were there and we just looked so disheveled coming out from a dive.” The two are happily engaged for almost a year now.
