Illumination Entertainment is officially heading into uncharted cosmic territory. The animation powerhouse behind beloved franchises such as ‘Despicable Me‘ and ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie,’ has announced its next original feature film, ‘Not Alone,‘ bringing together two of Hollywood’s iconic stars.
Announced to an enthusiastic crowd at the Annecy Animation Festival, this sci-fi romantic comedy will feature Timothée Chalamet and Selena Gomez in the lead roles. It is a star-powered reunion that promises to blend extraterrestrial antics with a human heart. Check all the project details below.
Timothée Chalamet And Selena Gomez Reunite For Alien Drama

Chalamet will become part of the animation world for the very first time playing a role of Joe, who is an “introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone.” Meanwhile, Gomez will voice Fran, a “brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fueled rocket.”

“When Joe and Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of this revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance,” according to the official synopsis of the film.
“Life becomes more complicated when three aliens—tiny, unruly and adorable—take refuge in Joe’s home. Dunk, Welly and Shirm are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro. The aliens determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.”
Interestingly, the project marks Chalamet and Gomez’s reunion. The duo has previously worked together in Woody Allen’s live-action film, ‘A Rainy Day in New York’ (2019). Chalamet played the protagonist Gatsby Welles, pursued by a love-struck Chan Tyrell, a supporting character portrayed by Gomez.
A Massive Ensemble Of Comedy Legends

Meanwhile, the film is going to feature many famous American and British comedians, including Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, and Jamie Demetriou, who are going to voice Dunk, Welly, and Shirm respectively. Plus, Brett Goldstein will take on the role of Officer Zandro.

Allison Janney and Lamorne Morris are also part of the film’s supporting cast. Although this movie is a milestone in Chalamet’s career, this is not the case with Gomez. A professional voice actor, Gomez has voiced Mavis Dracula in Sony’s ‘Hotel Transylvania’ (2012) and Helga in ‘Horton Hears a Who!’ (2008).
Filmmakers Eric Guillon, Claire Dodgson, and Jonathan Del Val, who are familiar faces for Illumination Studios, are leading the film. Meanwhile, Chris Meledandri, the CEO of the company is producing the project while Joy Poirel, Richard Curtis, and David Distenfeld are serving as executive producers.
Following the premiere of ‘Minions & Monsters’ at the Annecy Animation Festival, the studio is gearing up to release ‘Not Alone’ next year on April 16.
