The awards season is approaching and both Hollywood as well as its fans eagerly await the latest scoop and predictions on the major award shows from the Oscars to the Emmys to the Grammys to the Tonys. Variety‘s Variety Awards Circuit, which is curated by senior awards editor Clayton Davis, has released the list of artists it deems best, giving an insight into where the major players stand in the always-evolving race.
As the buzz and events change the complexion of the competition, nothing’s set in stone. All updates are done each Thursday. But as per this week’s prediction, Timothée Chalamet‘s performance in ‘A Complete Unknown‘ is standing out for the best actor, especially as he takes on the challenging role of Bob Dylan, performing all his own singing. Here’s what we think about his chances of winning.
Timothée Chalamet Has Delivered Phenomenal Performances In His Career So Far
Timothée Chalamet’s performance in ‘A Complete Unknown‘ has grabbed attention as he is taking on a rather challenging task of playing Bob Dylan while also singing himself. This is no easy task when portraying a musical legend with such a distinct and iconic voice.
But Chalamet, like so many other actors who attempted to play musical legends — Diana Ross as Billie Holiday in ‘Lady Sings the Blues‘ (1972), Sissy Spacek as Loretta Lynn in ‘Coal Miner’s Daughter‘ (1980), and Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland in ‘Judy‘ (2019) — does not attempt to sound exactly like Dylan.
Rather, he captures the spirit of Dylan’s voice and emotional range, producing an interpretation that feels less imitation than expression. It’s a bold choice that Academy voters may find hard to overlook.

Chalamet has already made history at the mere age of 22 when he received the Best Actor Oscar nomination for his role in ‘Call Me by Your Name‘ (2017). With the massive success that he achieved with his films like ‘Dune‘, ‘Wonka‘ and ‘Little Women‘ thereafter, Chalamet has indeed carved a place for himself in the industry at a young age.
Timothée Chalamet Will Script History If He Wins The Oscar This Year
If he bags the Oscar win this year, he will indeed be scripting history like no actor before him. With the possible win, Chalamet will become the youngest Best Actor winner of all time, beating Adrien Brody, who won for his role in ‘The Pianist‘ (2002) at the age of 29. Chalamet will be 29 in December, making him 279 days younger than Brody was when he took the trophy.
However, the competition will be fierce. Chalamet will have to contend with strong performances from Ralph Fiennes for ‘Conclave‘, Adrien Brody for ‘The Brutalist‘, and Colman Domingo for ‘Sing Sing‘ — all of whom are gunning for their shot at Oscar gold.
