Holland finally revealed that the dog playing Argos delivered a performance that deeply affected everyone on set. He didn’t reveal the scene to avoid spoilers. But the actor did share that it became one of the most emotional moments filmed.

“The scene that we really can’t talk about because it’s such a huge moment in the movie. The dog probably gives one of the best performances ever done by a furry animal on screen,” Holland said, cracking Damon up.

“And then my close-up was like right after that, and like every crew member is literally weeping because this f—-ing just nailed it so much,” he added. Additionally, he recalled that he assumed Nolan would film his part first, but that didn’t happen.

After the crew was moved to tears by the dog scene, Holland and Damon discussed the next shot. Director Christopher Nolan jokingly jumped in, saying, “Oi, thespians, get on with it. I’ll be on the f—ing dog.”

Nolan’s movie draws from Homer’s legendary poem about Odysseus and his long journey home after the Trojan War. Holland plays Telemachus, the son of Odysseus (Damon) and Penelope (Hathaway), who looks for his father and finally comes face to face with him in the end.

Since we don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t watched, just know the adorable Argos plays a very important part in this highly anticipated reunion. Meanwhile, in another interview, Holland also answered an interesting question regarding her wife’s character in the film.

Damon called it a “good answer” while Hathaway and Pattinson laughed. In an interview with Esquire magazine last month, Holland announced their marriage. He said their relatives knew AI-generated wedding photographs circulating online were fake “because they were all there” for the real ceremony.

Back to the interview, the cast returned to Athena’s role when Holland read another question asking why the goddess remained with Odysseus throughout his journey. Damon approached the question with sensibility, considering how Nolan delicately handles their relationship.

“This is difficult in the context of our movie without giving things away,” the actor said. “Because does Athena choose Odysseus or does Odysseus choose Athena? Spoiler alert. That’s all we can say.”

Whether Holland is deflecting questions about classical mythology with quick wit or struggling to follow up a brilliant animal actor, Holland’s experience proves that some of the toughest challenges on a big movie set can come from where you least expect them.
