Spider-Man may be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, but even he can’t escape being ignored. Tom Holland recently shared a surprisingly relatable tale on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon about attempting to reach out to football superstar Erling Haaland, but never hearing back.
Instead of taking the silence personally, Holland laughed at the experience, proving that even A-list celebrities occasionally face the same awkward moments as everyone else.
Tom Holland Laughs Off The Awkward Rejection From Erling Haaland

Holland revealed that he reached out to Haaland while both were in Monaco for a Formula 1 event ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The actor wanted to see one of the biggest stars in football and asked the Norwegian striker to come for dinner.

Sadly, there was no response to the invitation. Looking back on it, Holland said it was a “humbling experience” and a good reminder that fame doesn’t mean everyone respond. He explained to Jimmy Fallon that he did not get a polite “no” or an explanation, just silence.
“That is exactly the type of humbling experience that is important for actors. I’ll text him, let’s have dinner, but there’s no response. Not even an excuse, not him saying, ‘I’m busy, I’m playing football’… nada.” However, Holland wasn’t disappointed; he was amused and humbled.
Tom Holland Still Has Plenty of Respect for Haaland

Although the message was unanswered, Holland expressed that there are no hard feelings. The lifelong football fan described Haaland as an “absolute legend” and said that he would still sit down with him if the chance arose. And Holland couldn’t help but crack one more joke.

After England beat Norway in the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, he joked that Haaland may be even less keen on sharing a meal now. The casual interaction provided a welcome respite for fans to see Holland in a different light than that of a movie star or superhero.
As he’s currently preparing for the release of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and appearing in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, moments like these remind audiences why he remains one of Hollywood’s most likable stars.
Everyone has had the experience of sending a message that never gets a reply, and when one of the world’s biggest actors admits he’s had that experience, it’s both funny and oddly comforting. At times, even Spider-Man gets left on read, and all he can do is laugh about it.
