“We Didn’t Realize She Is A Connoisseur For P**ises”: ‘Drive-Away Dolls’ Creators Open Up About Casting Miley Cyrus For A Cameo

Filmmakers Tricia Cooke and Ethan Coen have adorned their latest comedy ‘Drive-Away Dollswith a starry lineup. The film has Geraldine Viswanathan and Margaret Qualley in the lead roles, with several other stars like Beanie Feldstein, Pedro Pascal, Colman Domingo, and Matt Damon in important roles. But a rather odd addition to the star-studded lineup is pop sensation Miley Cyrus — both because of the appearance she makes and the role she takes in the film.

Miley Cyrus take on the role of Tiffany — a groovy artist with a unique passion — in the film. But that is not all that defines her role. Speaking about Miley Cyrus’s appearance in the film, actresses playing the leads — Tricia Cooke and Ethan Coen — candidly shared that she depicts a figure who was particularly fond of superstars’ penises.

In the upcoming comedy film Drive-Away Dolls‘, Miley Cyrus plays the role of a fictionalized version of Cynthia Plaster Caster — a renowned visual artist famous for creating plaster casts of rock stars’ penises. Her muses include some great names like Jimi Hendrix, Pete Shelley, and Jello Biafra.

In a psychedelic flashback, Tiffany’s character shows her penchant for crafting dildos based on her former lovers’ anatomy. One of her muses has also been shown to be Florida Republican senator Gary Channel, played by Matt Damon. This adds a humorous and political twist to the film’s narrative.

Speaking more about Cyrus’s interesting role, Coen and Cooke revealed that Cyrus was their first choice. The popstar too was enthusiastic about the idea and readily accepted the opportunity to play a character inspired by Cynthia Plaster Caster.

When we asked her to do the movie and sent her the script, we didn’t realize that she is a long time — what’s the word? — connoisseur, a student, an enthusiast for penises,” Coen said with a laugh.

She only told us after the fact. She said, ‘Yeah, man, I have a whole penis room in my house. It was profiled in Town & Country.’ We didn’t know there was such a thing as a penis room,” Coen added.

It’s been a part of her stage act for a while, the giant phallus. But she’s so much fun. She’s game and up for anything. She’s just show business, in the best sense,” Coen continued.

The filmmakers also said that they were positive about Miley’s possible response to the offer, given her inclination towards the causes related to sex education and LGBTQI issues.

We also knew that she had an LGBT charity, and she works with unhoused youth,” Cooke chimed in. “So we thought, ‘Well, this might be interesting to her, this queer movie. She might be into it.’ And she is a rockstar. She kind of fits the Cynthia Plaster Caster profile of someone who’s a musician and just a lot of fun.”

In the movie, Qualley and Viswanathan’s characters stumble upon a briefcase filled with Tiffany’s intimate creations. To make the scene perfect, the production had to hold some unconventional prop meetings. “There were a lot of prop penis meetings because, in the movie, it’s got to look right. The penises have got to look right!” Coen said.

We had a lot of discussion with the props person about the size and color and texture and how much they would wiggle,” Cooke added. “Just another day at work,” Coen said with a laugh.

Drive-Away Dolls’ is currently playing in theaters, promising audiences a blend of comedy and eccentricity.
