What Happened To Michael Jordan’s Dad James Jordan Sr.?
Michael Jordan’s father, James Jordan Sr. died in 1993. James went missing while driving home from a party on 23 July 2023. A few weeks later his body was discovered by the authorities. James was shot while he was sleeping in his car. Authorities also discovered that he was robbed. So it was thought that it was a robbery gone wrong.
Soon after this incident, Michael Jordan announced his retirement from the NBA. The death of his father was hard on him and it also “made me realize how short life is, how quickly things can end, how innocently.”

Was Anyone Arrested For The Crime?
Police arrested 18-year-olds Larry M. Demery and Daniel Green soon after the discovery of the body. Demery also confessed that they were planning to rob him while he was sleeping in his car and ultimately ended up shooting him.
Michael Jordan On His Father’s Death
The death of his father impacted Jordan severely. The loss was so grave that Michael Jordan took retirement from his career. Later on, Jordan spoke about his father several times. In the 2020 docuseries, ‘The Last Dance‘, Michael emotionally recalled, “He was my rock. You know, we were very close. He constantly gave me advice.”
Michael also added, “I remember, in ninth grade, I got suspended three times in one year, and my father pulled me aside that summer and said, ‘Look, you don’t look like you’re heading in the right direction. You know, if you want to go about doing all this mischievous stuff, you can forget sports.’ And that’s all I needed to hear.”
The NBA legend was gravely hurt by the untimely and brutal demise of his father. The movie ‘Air‘ captures his relationship with his parents but leaves out this immensely emotional part.
