Years later, she would join the very franchise she watched that day, meet her future husband through it, and build one of Hollywood’s most beloved careers.
Zendaya’s First-Ever Date Had An Unexpected ‘Spider-Man’ Connection
While speaking at CinemaCon in 2023, Zendaya shared a memory that instantly caught fans’ attention. Looking back on her teenage years, she revealed that her first-ever date involved a trip to the movies.

“Literally my first date was when I was 15 years old and it was to go see [The Amazing] Spider-Man in 3D,” Zendaya said while accepting the Star of the Year Award.
At the time, it was just another night at the theater. However, the story feels very different today. Long before she became part of the Spider-Man universe, Zendaya was sitting in the audience watching one of the franchise’s biggest releases without knowing how closely her future would become tied to it.
The actress later reflected on that journey by saying, “Now I consider myself honored to be able to buy a ticket and sneak into the back of one of your theaters, which I’ve done many times before, and watch my own.”
Tom Holland Was Impressed By Zendaya Before Their Romance Began
The Spider-Man franchise gave Zendaya much more than a successful film series. It also introduced her to Tom Holland, although his admiration for her began almost immediately. In an interview with Esquire, Holland recalled watching Zendaya audition for ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming‘ and realizing she stood out from the crowd.

Even before they became friends or co-stars, she had already made a lasting impression. “Obviously, I was super excited at the prospect of working with her and getting to know her. She smashed her audition out of the park and got the part before she’d even left the room,” Holland said.
According to him, producer Amy Pascal reached the same conclusion. “I remember when she closed the door to leave, Amy Pascal was immediately like, ‘Well, she’s getting the job,'” Holland recalled. Looking back now, we can see why fans view their Spider-Man story as more than just another Hollywood casting tale.
Zendaya and Holland went on to star in multiple Spider-Man films together, and their friendship eventually developed into a relationship. And from then on, fans have remained invested in their story both on and off screen.
