Who Is Benjamin Millepeid?
Benjamin Millepied was born in Bordeaux, France. He is a French dancer and choreographer. Benjamin began studying ballet when he was eight. Then, he attended the Conservatoire National Supérieur Musique et Danse de Lyon, France. In 1993, he joined the New York City Ballet on a full scholarship from the French ministry.
He began creating his own choreography in 2001. Benjamin then went on to become a principal dancer with New York City Ballet from 2002 to 2011. Later, he was the director of dance at the Paris Opéra Ballet from 2014 to 2016. Benjamin was also involved in the choreographing of some movies. His work for Aronofsky’s ballet thriller ‘Black Swan‘ was highly appreciated, and it immediately attracted the attention of Hollywood to him.
Millepied’s father Denys Millepied is known to be a former decathlete and a dance teacher. Benjamin learned to track and field from his father. His mother is Catherine Millepied-Flory. She is a former ballet dancer. It was Catherine who started teaching her son ballet at an early age. Benjamin is the youngest in the family and has an older brother, Laurent Millepied.
