Who Will Become The Prince Of Wales?
As Prince of Wales, will now be crowned as the King it is understood that his title will be traditionally handed over to the heir apparent. Thus, in this case, it would be the eldest son of King Charles III, Prince William. But the title is not automatically passed on but it has to be granted to the heir apparent by the monarch. Technically it can be given to anyone else. Again, as a senior royal member, Prince William will be the most preferred for the position. The title also fully ceases to exist when the Prince of Wales becomes the King. So at this point, no one is Prince of Wales unless Charles gives the title to William.
The title Duke of Cornwall traditionally goes to the eldest son of the monarch and is now Prince William. And when William takes up the title of Prince of Wales, Kate Middleton will become the Princess of Wales, a title last held by Princess Diana. Kate will also become the new Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Duchess of Rothesay.
