‘High School Musical‘ on the Disney Channel introduced Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens to a large audience. The two had great chemistry together, and it carried over into their personal lives as well. Beginning in 2006, they were formally dating for roughly five years.
Efron and Hudgens were inseparable the moment they were cast as the leading pair in the ‘High School Musical‘ series. On the first movie’s set, the pair fell in love, and when the Disney Channel flick debuted in 2006, they suddenly became teen idols. As millions of followers followed their every step and hung pictures on their bedroom walls, their romance grew. Efron and Hudgens broke up in 2019. What really went wrong with this terrific couple? When Did Zac And Vanessa Start Dating?
Efron and Hudgens bonded courtesy to the charm of the refreshing Disney classic ‘High School Musical‘. Both Efron and Hudgens remarked on their immediate chemistry, and Efron told People that he “clicked” with Hudgens right away, according to Elle.
Despite not making their relationship public until 2006, the couple was apparently growing quite close in 2005. “I was like, ‘They’re not trying us with other people,’” Efron said. “For some reason, we kept sticking around [for callbacks]. I don’t know what it was with Vanessa, but we kind of clicked from the very beginning.” “We created a bond from the start,” Hudgens added.
For the first year or two of the couple’s relationship, it seemed like things went quite smoothly. While there were breakup rumors in 2007, Efron and Hudgens denied them. A few years later, there were engagement rumors, but Hudgens was adamant that she wasn’t in a rush to tie the knot. “I think [marriage and starting a family] is great, but I’m so focused on my career right now that it doesn’t really cross my mind,” she said. Sadly, the pair chose to part ways in 2010 and split up.
Why Did Zac And Vanessa Break Up?
Despite the fact that Efron and Hudgens appeared to be the ideal pair with little to no problems, this was not the reality. When they first started dating, Efron and Hudgens were both relatively young, but it appears that time and divergent paths forced them to grow apart.
Hudgens acknowledged in an interview with New York Times that she wasn’t always a pleasant person to be around. “I went through a phase when I was really mean because I was so fed up,” she said. “Girls were running after him, and I was giving them death stares. Then I realized that’s not what that’s about. ‘Spread the love, be a good person, they support you, be nice.’”
It appears that even Efron had his doubts about being in a relationship. When he and Hudgens were still dating, he spoke to Details and said “Believe me, I rack my brain thinking, ‘Why am I not out there playing the field?’” he added “One of my buddies was like, ‘You have no idea what’s going on right now. You’re peaking on Ecstasy and you’re watching TV.’ But it’s not in my heart.”
It seems they broke up because they had different life paths and different desires.

What Happened Post The Split?
It appears that after their separation, Efron and Hudgens had some unresolved sentiments. People said that the two were seen growing close in 2011. The tabloid was told by a person who witnessed the ex-couples that they were “constantly touching and kissing each other” while at the event.
“Vanessa was bopping around with her arms up while Zac had his hands all over her,” the source explained. “Vanessa had a smile on from ear to ear and the two were inseparable after that. … They were making out on and off for the last hour or so until closing. They acted like there was no one else in the room.”
Even though they briefly made up, Hudgens and Efron have already moved on. Hudgens later dated Austin Butler for a long time. She’s currently with Cole Tucker. Efron has recently been sighted with Australian model Vanessa Valladares.
