‘The Lord of the Rings‘ is easily one of the most successful film franchises in Hollywood. The Peter Jackson-directed fantasy films met with critical acclaim and strong box-office results, grossing over $2.991 billion worldwide. It also won 17 Academy Awards from 30 nominations.
Elijah Wood portrayed the role of Frodo Baggins in the series and in the subsequent ‘Hobbits‘ series. Recently, it was announced that Warner Bros. is planning a new film series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s books. This isn’t going well with Wood who is concerned about the project. So let’s find out what he feels.

Elijah Wood Talks About The New ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Plans
Elijah Wood holds the original ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy very dear to his heart. This is why the 42-year-old is not very happy with Warner Bros.’s plans to resurrect the franchise once again.
In an interview with GQ Magazine, Wood said that he is “fascinated” and “excited” and is hoping that it turns out to be good. “I’m surprised—I don’t know why I’m surprised because, of course there would be more movies,” he said.
Wood further added that “at the core of it” is the studio’s “desire to make a lot of money.” “It’s not that a bunch of executives are like, ‘Let’s make really awesome art.’ And, again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce. But great art can come from commerce”, he explained.

Will Wood Reprise The Role Of Frodo In The Reboot?
Wood strongly believes that Peter Jackson’s trilogy was not dictated by commerce. “It came out of a passion for these books and wanting to see them realized“, he said.
In a different interview, he was asked if he would reprise the role of Frodo for a reboot. He said if there are more projects involving the character, “I would be down.” Last year, Amazon Studios released ‘The Rings of Power‘, which has been renewed for a second season.
Lately, WB has been in touch with Peter Jackson and his partners Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens for a potential new film series based on Tolkien’s appendices.
