Rihanna has been off the musical radar for quite a while now, making her next album a matter of heavy anticipation. Though the singer as well as her husband A$AP Rocky have time and again reiterated that her next album is in the works, everyone has been waiting for her to make an announcement that never came.
Amid the prolonged delay, many are even wondering if the star has decided to retire after her recent pregnancy and the resultant motherhood. But she is steering clear of the rumors. The pop sensation has finally opened up about the arrival of her album dubbed ‘R9′, but fans shouldn’t expect it to drop anytime soon. Here’s what she said.
Rihanna Clarifies She Does Not Want To Rush The Creative Process While Working On Her Next Album
Rihanna was speaking at her Fenty Hair launch party in Los Angeles on Monday, when she provided an update on her new music to Entertainment Tonight and debunked rumors of her retirement. “I think that music, for me, is a new discovery,” Rihanna said.
“I’m rediscovering things. I have been working on the album for so long that I kinda put all that stuff aside and now I’m prepared to go back in the studio. I’m gonna start — give me a second!” the Grammy-winning singer added.
Rihanna further asserted that she does not want to rush her creative process just because of the pressure of releasing her album. She noted that to get the best of her talent, she has been revisiting her previously recorded tracks and creating new ones.
“Yeah, I’m starting over,” she explained. “But I don’t want to neglect the songs that I have, so I actually want to go back and listen to stuff with new ears, with my new perspective and then see what applies and what I’m still in love with.”

Rihanna Reassures Her Fans That She Isn’t Getting Retired Anytime Soon
The heavy anticipation around Rihanna’s next album comes amid absence from the music scene since she last released a studio album in 2016. The album ‘Anti’ was an instant hit and garnered Grammy nominations for best urban contemporary album and best recording package.
Though the wait for her next album has been exceptionally long, Rihanna has reassured her fans that retirement is not on the horizon for her. She also addressed the recent buzz sparked by her t-shirt that read, “I’m Retired,” which she wore while walking in New York City with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky.
“People got triggered with that retired word,” Rihanna said. “They were like, ‘We’re never getting an album now.’ No one read the other line, it was something about, ‘This is as dressed up as I get,’” the singer clarified.
