Hollywood has emerged to be increasingly exclusive towards the LGBTQI community over the last few years. Several films in the past decade have embraced homosexuality like never before. Another such upcoming film is ‘Queer‘, starring Drew Starkey with Daniel Craig.
Drew recently talked about the film and how it awakened a new sense inside him while filming intimate scenes. He also opened up about what made him feel comfortable and just be himself while filming sex scenes.
Drew Starkey Felt Comfortable While Filming Sex Scenes With Daniel Craig
Drew Starkey shared his unique experience while filming ‘Queer‘, as he stated that he found himself rolling on the floor in a sweaty clinch with Daniel Craig. “We jumped into it, just grabbing and throwing our bodies on top of one another, rolling around, getting intermingled,” Starkey recalled during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“I think it unlocked something subconsciously, gave us a level of comfortability and familiarity with each other, so that, everything after that was very easy,” he added.

Drew also mentioned that the American audience is very upright about sex scenes which he finds strange. He asserted that he’s glad that topics like sexuality are coming back to theatres as it’s a better way to understand ourselves. “You learn so much about a person by looking at the way they are intimate with one another,” he said.
Drew Starkey Got A Role In The Movie By Accident
Drew Starkey got the job in the movie ‘Queer’ by accident, when another director, who had seen Starkey audition for another role, handed his tape to director Luca Guadagnino.
Starkey was more than scared for this role as it was different from the usual roles he plays. He said, “Because it was different than most of the characters I’ve played. There’s so much subtlety and delicacy to it. It was a real challenge because no one can read him, no one understands him, least of all (Craig’s character) Lee. So it was my job to try, as best I could, to understand what was going on inside this guy.”

“I got a call from my agent who said: ‘Luca Guadagnino wants to have breakfast with you,’” he recalled. “So I had breakfast with him, and we talked about our lives, we talked about the weather, and we talked about Los Angeles, and he brought up this project that he’s been working on and asked if I could put a few scenes on tape,” he added.
More months, more meals, and more conversations later, Drew Starkey landed a role in the movie.
