The long-standing conflict between Batman and the Joker has defined both characters for decades. The two characters have made it pretty clear that they don’t like each other. Moreover, fans wonder why Batman hasn’t yet ended the Joker.
While Bruce Wayne’s moral code prevents him from killing, there have been several moments in the comics and adaptations where fans believe he should have made an exception. These are the times when Batman could have and arguably should have, ended the Joker’s life for good.

1. After Joker Killed Robin
One of the most heartbreaking moments in Batman‘s history is the death of the second Robin. Joker brutally beats Jason with a crowbar before eventually leaving him to die in an explosion.
This had a huge impact on Bruce Wayne. Additionally, even Robin after returning as Red Hood, questioned why he didn’t kill the Joker for this. Wayne admitted that his code against killing is stronger than even his need for revenge. However, many fans argue that this was a moment where Batman should have ended the Joker.

2. After Ace Fried The Joker’s Brain
Joker manipulated a powerful psychic child named Ace and used her to incapacitate the entire Justice League. However, Ace eventually turned against him and fried his brain with her powers.
Moreover, this provided the Caped Crusader the perfect opportunity to end the villain. Instead, Batman showed mercy, which Joker repaid by returning to his old ways and committing even more atrocities in the future.

3. After Joker Made Robin Fight Batman
Joker Kidnapped Damian Wayne aka Robin, Batman’s son, and turned him against the superhero. Additionally, he drugged Damian and forced him to fight Batman who was also drugged.
Batman eventually frees Damian. However, the damage is done. Given how Joker had crossed the line once again this could’ve been it. However, Bruce chose to once again let him go.
4. After Overpowering Emperor Joker In His Mind
The Clown Prince of Crime gained godlike powers to reshape reality. He tortured the Caped Crusader by killing him resurrecting him and then doing it all over again. Some say that this was more than crossing the line.
At this point, Joker was mentally defeated, his spirit broken. Batman had the chance to end him then and there, arguably as a mercy kill. However, he once again chose to spare him, allowing the Joker to continue his cycle of chaos and destruction.
5. After Joker Fell In The Acid Vat
The Joker origin story showed how a failed comedian and petty criminal fell into a vat of chemical waste while escaping from Batman. This incident turned him into the maniacal villain we know today.
Additionally, at that moment, Batman could have let the Joker drown in the acid, effectively preventing the creation of his greatest nemesis. By saving the man who would become the Joker, Batman unknowingly sets the stage for countless horrors to be unleashed on Gotham.
