As anticipation for ‘The Batman Part II’ continues to grow, a new rumor has sparked another wave of debate among DC fans. This time, it’s not only about the future of Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight, but who might don the cape in James Gunn’s own DC Universe.

Reports (via cosmicbook) now have Alan Ritchson, the star of ‘Reacher’, as one of the top candidates for the DCU’s Batman. None of the claims has been substantiated by DC Studios. However, the rumour has sparked renewed speculation on when Gunn’s take on Batman will finally be released.

The report states that James Gunn is keen on getting a physically imposing, more experienced Batman to set the DCU’s Caped Crusader apart from Robert Pattinson’s grounded take of the character. Alan Ritchson certainly fits that description.

The actor has a solid action résumé and is a favorite for the role. He also has DC experience, having played Hawk in Titans, which further adds to the buzz surrounding the latest speculation. Intriguingly, both Gunn and Ritchson have admitted talking about Batman in the past.

Gunn has previously publicly praised the actor, and Ritchson has said he has had discussions about the role, but has continually denied being cast. As of yet, there’s been no official statement from DC Studios as to who will be playing Batman in the DCU.

The casting news comes just after ‘The Batman Part II’ was delayed to 2028, reigniting the debate about the future of Batman on the big screen. Some online reports attribute the delay to ongoing creative discussions about the Dark Knight’s role in the future of DC.

Fans have also been speculating if Gunn could bring his own Batman to the table sooner, maybe even before ‘The Brave and the Bold’ does. Adding to the intrigue, rumors have suggested that Damian Wayne could still play an important role in the DCU’s plans, keeping interest high in how Batman’s family might eventually be introduced.

These reports are not confirmed information. It’s all speculation until confirmed by DC Studios. However, if Alan Ritchson is finally selected to be the DCU’s Batman, it would be one of the most discussed superhero castings in recent years, and a whole new interpretation of Gotham’s legendary protector.
