DCEU might be shaping for the better now as James Gunn and Peter Safran have laid out their long-term plan for the company. For the first time in many years, DC showed up at San Diego Comic-Con last month and Jim Lee the president Publisher, and Chief Creative Officer of the comics brand addressed the proceedings.

Jim Lee Speaks About James Gunn And Peter Safran Joining DC Studios
All the recent releases of DC in 2023 have not exactly been bombing at the box office. But Jim Lee predicts that will turn around thanks to the new slate being dreamed up by the new bosses of the studio. Lee also stated that he already sees evidence of this changing tide, crediting James Gunn specifically for it.Ā
In an interview with The HollywoodĀ Reporter, Lee said, “Itās amazing to have partners in DC Studios co-CEOs Peter Safran and James Gunn, particularly James. He was a comics fan growing up and knows our mythology inside out. And having that kind of ally in the live-action space allows us to really leverage what he is doing and allow us to market and sell comic books to new readers.”
He also added, “These are people who are interested in his movies, his TV shows, and if they want to take a deep dive into these characters, he directs them to the comic books.”Ā

Jim Lee Addresses New DC Comics And New DC Universe
Jim Lee emphasized how James Gunn has been directing the fans interested in his movies and TV shows who want to take a deep dive into the comic books. Lee said, “At the end of the day, thereās the business of DC and then thereās the content engine that creates all the DC content, from the comics to animation and movies and stuff like that. But itās that connection between comics and media that weāre celebrating here.”
During a March interview with CBR, Tom King, comic creator for ‘Batman: The Brave and the Bold’ and ‘Wonder Woman‘ similarly spoke about the support DC Comics has received from Gunn. King said, “So to me, this is like a DC renaissance. It’s a time to say how awesome this universe is and how far it can go, and how it can reach multiple generations of audience and say, ‘Look at these characters and how they shine.’ So to me, that’s what Dawn of DC is. These characters aren’t broken. They don’t need to be fixed. They don’t need to be deconstructed. They just need to be put into place where you can see what they can do. And that’s what it is.”
