DC Might Have Spoilt James Gunn’s ‘Superman: Legacy’
The official Superman Twitter account revealed three of the character’s comic arcs that inspired James Gunn‘s rebooted Superman film. Out of all the characters, it seemed like Brainiac might be the villain. Created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino, Brainiac first appeared in Action Comics in 1958, making him one of Superman’s longest-running recurring villains.
The second selection was ‘All-Star Superman‘ created by Frank Quitely and Grant Morrison. According to this comic, the Kryptonian hero is seen dying due to the overexposure of the sun. And the third comic in run was the ‘Superman: Birthright‘ by Mark Waid, which focuses on the origin story.

Brainiac Is DC’s Oldest-Recurring Villain
Brainiac nearly debuted before James Gunn’s big DCU reset as an antagonist for ‘Man for Steel 2’. The classic villain has popped up in various Superman media outside of films. He was recently the antagonist in the Injustice 2 video game and will also appear in ‘Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’.
Unlike many other characters from the Silver Age, Brainiac’s actual origin and powers are different. He is frequently portrayed as an alien artificial intelligence bent on collecting entire worlds to amass knowledge. Brainiac is often considered the Kryptonian hero’s archenemy, teaming up with General Zod and Doomsday.
