Since James Gunn and Peter Safran came aboard to handle the creative and executive decision-making at DCEU, there has been a complete overhaul. The creative duo has made several decisions that have upset some fans as the future of DCEU looks murky. However, with ‘Superman: Legacy’, James Gunn has ignited some hope among the fans.
When David Zaslav became the CEO of Warner Bros. and Discovery, he emphasized bringing back the fan-favorite characters in DCEU and giving the secondary characters their spin-offs. With ‘Superman: Legacy’, Gunn is bringing Superman back on the screen. The film had a turbulent journey when the director announced that Henry Cavill would not reprise the role of the Kryptonite. While Superman and Loise have been recast, the antagonist, Lex Luthor, will be played by Nicholas Hoult, and as per James, it will be something that people have not seen before.
James Gunn Teases About Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor In ‘Superman: Legacy’
The Hollywood Reporter released a report about James Gunn’s hunt for the next Superman, Lois Lane, and the antagonist, Lex Luthor, for the next directorial venture, ‘Superman: Legacy’. In November 2023, Gunn’s quest for Lex Luthor, one of the lethal antagonists on the radar of the Justice League, ended with the casting of Nicholas Hoult.
Recently, James Gunn wrote about a conversation Nicholas Hoult and he had over dinner. James wrote, “I couldn’t be happier.” He continued, “We went out last night to celebrate and discuss how we can create a Lex that will be different from anything you’ve seen before and will never forget.”
James Gunn added, “ ‘But James, we heard this week ago, why didn’t you tell us it was true?’ Because, although we were discussing it, it wasn’t final until a couple days ago, and I don’t want to tell you all something that isn’t certain.”

David Corenswet And Rachel Brosnahan To Play Superman And Lois Lane
After the departure of Henry Cavill from the ‘Superman’ franchise, James Gunn started searching for the next Kryptonite. He wanted a fresh face to play the character. Many actors, including Jacob Elordi, were rumored to be playing the character. However, in June 2023, Gunn found his Superman and Lois Lane in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.
David Corenswet is a graduate of the esteemed Julliard Institute. He was recently seen in Ti West’s A24 slasher ‘Pearl’, the prequel to ‘X’. David was seen in projects like Ryan Murphy’s ‘Hollywood’, Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’, and other series.
Whereas, Rachel Brosnahan is popular for playing Miriam Maisel in Prime Video’s ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’. Before she was cast as the journalist and Superman’s love interest, Lois Lane, the actress appeared on The View, where she was asked about the casting rumor. She said, “I mean, look, taking everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt is my first advice.”
Rachel Brosnahan continued, “Look, it would be extraordinary. I grew up watching Lois Lane, this incredibly talented journalist, far from a damsel in distress, and I would jump at the chance if it arose.”
