James Gunn has finally locked down the actor who would take up the mantle of The Man of Steel following Henry Cavill. Although the decision to drop Cavill was rather heartbreaking, maybe David Corenswet would make up for it. ‘Superman: Legacy’ will be directed by James Gunn from his own screenplay and will be produced by Peter Safran. The project is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
Peter Safran revealed what the project will be about. Sarfan said the film, “focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

David Corenswet Shares His Vision For Superman
In 2019, David Corenswet was promoting his supporting role in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series ‘Hollywood’ when he told Entertainment Weekly that his biggest acting goal was “definitely to play Superman”. And, four years later he landed on his dream role. Corenswet also revealed that he is aware of his similar looks to Henry Cavill, “It came to my attention before the internet got a hold of me”.
David Corenswet shared, “But my pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic.”

James Gunn Is Steering Away From The Darker Version Of Superman
The new Superman portrayed by David Corenswet will be optimistic and upbeat, something very different from Henry Cavill’s dark version of The Man of the Steel. During the casting search, James Gunn told Variety, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”
Since Peter Sarfan and James Gunn took over DC, and are rebooting the Universe around a younger Superman, hence casting David Corenswet is the best possible choice. Corenswet is best known for his contribution to ‘The Politician‘ and ‘Hollywood’, hence landing on the role of Superman is a huge deal for his budding Hollywood career. Along with him, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan is locked down to play Clark Kent’s love interest, Lois Lane.
