The cameras have officially started rolling on ‘The Batman: Part II,’ and new evidence just came out confirming that Batman will go up against one of his toughest and oldest enemies yet.

According to several reports, the secret group called the Court of Owls will be a big part of Matt Reeves‘ next movie, which is set to come out on October 1, 2027.

Insider Jeff Sneider from The Insneider says the sequel will dig deep into Gotham’s rich and rotten side by bringing in this legendary secret society. Sneider reported, “The group is an ancient secret society of criminals that includes some of Gotham City’s oldest and wealthiest families, who have controlled Gotham from the shadows for centuries.” He also said they employ undead assassins called the Talons to get things done.

This matches up with what Reeves himself has been hinting at. While promoting ‘The Penguin‘ spin-off, the director teased that the next movie would show a kind of corruption so deep “it goes into places he couldn’t even anticipate in the first one.” Comic book fans say that epic scale sounds a lot like Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s famous 2011 Batman comic run, which has never been made into a live-action film.

Sources say the Court’s power will show up through a strong cast. Not many details are out yet, but recent casting rumors have changed a lot of what people thought before.

Contrary to earlier gossip, Sebastian Stan is reportedly not playing Harvey Dent. Instead, he will play the creepy serial killer Victor Zsasz. Meanwhile, Brian Tyree Henry is said to be taking on the role of District Attorney Harvey Dent, a character whose fall into villainy could be sped up by the Court’s corruption.

How The Court of Owls Fits Reeves’ Expanding Story

Bringing in the Court of Owls makes sense for how Reeves’ Batman story is growing. The first movie dealt with the corruption of the Renewal program. The sequel looks ready to take on a bigger, system-wide evil that has been around for generations. Unlike the more fantastical villains from other Batman movies, the Court hides within high society. That kind of threat feels very real in Reeves’ gritty, noir-style Gotham.

With production picking up and Robert Pattinson back in the Batsuit, Gotham’s future is on the line. The Riddler may have shown the city’s lies to everyone, but the Court of Owls makes sure the truth stays buried.

‘The Batman: Part II’ will release in theaters on October 1, 2027.
