The most anticipated live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s comic book, ‘The Sandman,’ came to screens on August 5, 2022, through Netflix. The plot of the series revolves around Morpheus (Tom Surridge), the King of Dreaming, who is returning back to his realm, to restore his lost powers. Dream is the third of the seven Endless and had been under the captivity of a wizard named Roderick Burgess (Charles Dance) for the past century.
In Morpheus’s absence, his realm had undergone quite a bit of change, with splits and divides between multiple figures. He has to fight his way back to restore his realm and power. It was not an easy task. With Lucifer Morningstar (Gwendoline Christie), his sibling Desire (Mason Alexander Park), and other escaped nightmares causing trouble, Morpheus is finding it difficult. But these are not dangerous as his final challenge, the Dream Vortex. How will the King of Dreams fight this Dream Vortex that can destroy the Dreaming and waking realm?

Dream Vortex In The Sandman
A Dream Vortex is a major threat to the Dreaming realm. The Dream Vortex has the power to travel through and manipulate the dreams of other people. And this ability can go out of hand, by breaking down the barriers between the Dreaming and waking world.
The birth of the Dream Vortex happens unsuspectingly roughly every thousand years. In this season of The Sandman, the Vortex is manifested as Rose Walker (Vanesu Samunyai), a young woman initially unaware of the powers within her. She is in search of her long-lost brother, Jed who is in foster care.
How Powerful Is Dream Vortex?
As the Dream Vortex, Rose can travel through people’s dreams and become the focal point of those dreams. Rose’s inner powers also help her to enter Morpheus’s throne room and address him directly. She is powerful enough to weaken the barriers of the Dreaming realm. In theory, if a Vortex gets too powerful it can consume the dreaming and erase the existence of Dream King himself.
However, with the nature of powers being uncontrollable, it can lead to the destruction of the Dreaming realm. This would eventually lead to the destruction of the waking realm, as those in the waking realm will have nowhere to go upon sleep. So what would happen to Dream Vortex? Being the King of Dreams, it is sure that Morpheus would sacrifice everything in his power to save his abode.
