Barack Obama Shares His Annual List Of Book And Movie Recommendations, But Admits He Is Biased For THIS Reason

Former American President Barack Obama may not be in power anymore, but he sure knows how to keep his traditions alive. One of the many traditions that Obama is still known and looked up to is his book, music, and movie recommendations that he releases every year.

So the man spends his year reading and watching quality content and then lays it down for his followers to benefit from it. He generally releases these well-thought-out curations at the end of the year on his official social media handles. And it is that time of the year again! Here’s what Obama has on his recommendation list this year.

Obama took to social media in his customary style, as he shared two slides on Instagram. The first one featured his top picks for the best books of 2023. The list included gems such as ‘The Heaven & Earth Grocery Store‘ by James McBride, ‘The Maniac‘ by Benjamin Labatut, ‘Poverty by America‘ by Matthew Desmond, and ‘How to Say Babylon‘ by Safiya Sinclair.

Some other noteworthy titles that made it to the list are ‘The Wager‘ by David Grann, ‘Chip War‘ by Chris Miller, and ‘The Vaster Wilds‘ by Lauren Groff.

Moving on to the big screen, Obama laid out considerable praise for three films that happened to be produced by his and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground. He even admitted his bias for those in a playful tone.

I’m biased since these movies were produced by Higher Ground, but these are three of the best films I saw this year, he wrote, followed by his three best picks: ‘Rustin’, ‘Leave the World Behind‘, and ‘American Symphony’. Some more noteworthy entries on his list included ‘The Holdovers’, ‘Blackberry‘, ‘Oppenheimer‘, and ‘American Fiction‘ among others.

Obama also mentioned the SAG-AFTRA strikes in his post, acknowledging that it has brought a significant and much-needed change to the industry that thrives on the works of actors and writers. He also took a moment to appreciate the efforts of the Writers Guild of America.

“Writers and actors went on strike to advocate for better working conditions and protections. It led to important changes that will transform the industry for the better,” he wrote in the caption of his post.

The one list that remains is his top music picks of 2023. While we keep an eye on that list, you should perhaps dive into the former president’s book and movie recommendations to make the best of the holiday season.
