A ‘Blade Runner 2049’ sequel series is soon going to be released on the streaming giant Amazon Prime. Titled ‘Blade Runner 2099‘, the development was officially confirmed recently. This new live-action series is set after the events of Ridley Scott’s original and Denis Villeneuve’s sequel. The prequels were released in 2017 and 1982 respectively.
“The original Blade Runner, directed by Ridley Scott, is considered one of the greatest and most influential science-fiction movies of all time. We’re excited to introduce Blade Runner 2099 to our global Prime Video customers.” Amazon Studios head of global television Vernon Sanders said. “We are honored to be able to present this continuation of the Blade Runner franchise, and are confident that by teaming up with Ridley, Alcon Entertainment, Scott Free Productions, and the remarkably talented Silka Luisa, Blade Runner 2099 will uphold the intellect, themes, and spirit of its film predecessors.”

Who Is Blade Runner?
Blade Runner is finally getting his own limited series. People are pretty excited that this realm is extending with a provocative storyline. In this franchise, blade runners are a type of police officers who are given the task of killing rogue replicants. Blade Runner is also known as Replicant Detection or Rep-Detect. Ryan Gosling’s Officer K and Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard played the role of blade runners in the 2049 and original films respectively.
Replicants are genetically bioengineered humans. They were designed to be slaves and were modified to have their strength improved. Blade Runner would employ the Voight-Kampff test to identify replicants. They would ask the subject a series of questions and measure their emotional response, to deduce if they are human or not. If the subject is detected as non-human or replicant they are ‘retired’.

Plot, Cast, and Release Date
Exact plot details are still not available but the show will take place fifty years after the events of its prequel. According to Variety reports the director informed that “We [have already] written the pilot for ‘Blade Runner’ and the bible. So, we’re already presenting ‘Blade Runner’ as a TV show, the first 10 hours.”
No cast has been announced as of yet. From the time gap, it seems very unlikely that any major characters such as Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard or Ryan Gosling’s K would appear in this series. The trailer is yet to be released. We will keep you updated if there is any more news from the franchise.
