The upcoming American Sci-Fi drama ‘Citadel’ is a television series created by Patrick Moran and the Russo Brothers. The series will stream on Amazon Prime Video. The leading cast includes Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra. The series became the second most expensive one ever made.

Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec who worked on ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol‘ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ were hired to develop the series. The Plot And Location Of The Series

The techno spy thriller is described as “action packed spy series with a compelling emotional centre” and “an expansive and ground-breaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” The leading cast in the series features Richard Madden as Citadel agent Mason Kane and Priyanka Chopra as Citadel agent Nadia Singh.

The series is set to have spin-offs in the future. The first series starring Chopra and Madden is the mothership show under which several local spinoffs will exist including Italy, India, Spain and Mexico. The reason for having spin-offs, Amazon explained is because “the local series are meant to enhance the entire entertainment experience and will be available for the viewer to deep dive into an imagined layered world.” The Indian version will be directed by Raj and DK, starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha.

In an interview, Madden said that his character is an amnesiac. The journey to discover who he was before the accident happened which he could no longer remember is what propels the plot. The sentiments tighten up when the clash between the life that he has been living for eight years and the life that he used to live gradually comes to surface. The series also explores the psyche of Madden’s character that lives with the consequences of things that he is not aware of.

What Is The Drama Behind The Series Budget?

    Russo Brothers

Citadel is the second most expensive series of all time after ‘Lord of Rings: The Rings of Power‘. This is also going to be streamed on Amazon Prime Video. The reshoots for ‘Citadel‘ are one of the main reasons for the expensive budget. As per the reports, the show is currently estimated with a $250 million budget.

The series is still in the post-production phase, and it could be dropped on Prime Video anytime in late 2022 or early 2023. The reason for the reshoots was that the Russo brothers were less involved in the series. After all, they committed to the Netflix film ‘The Gray Man. Consequentially, creative differences grew between the Russo brothers and writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. Amazon eventually let go of Applebaum and stuck with Russos.

Then, David Weil was hired by Amazon to rewrite the show. They also brought in cinematographer, Thomas Sigel, who somehow steered two of the episodes to direct the reshoots. Let’s hope that the ‘Citadel‘ series is worth the 250 million dollar budget Amazon is providing. Stay tuned to know more about the release date of the series.
