Judi Dench is often regarded as one of Britain’s finest actresses. She is known for her performance in films and television shows across genres as well as her roles on the stage. In her over a six-decade career, Dench has won several accolades including Oscar, Golden Globe, and BAFTA.
The trailer for the fifth season of Netflix’s ‘The Crown‘ has been creating a buzz lately. It will focus on the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana. However, Dench has not liked the depiction of the British Royal family on it. Let’s find out what she said about it.
Judi Dench Slams ‘The Crown’
The trailer for the fifth season of Netflix’s period drama ‘The Crown‘ was released recently. Fans are really excited to see how the show depicts the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana.
However, veteran actress Judi Dench has some issues with it. In an open letter to The Times UK, the 87-year-old actress slammed it for being “cruelly unjust”.
“The closer the drama comes to our present times, the more freely it seems willing to blur the lines between historical accuracy and crude sensationalism,” she wrote.
She continued, “Given some of the wounding suggestions apparently contained in the new series — that King Charles plotted for his mother to abdicate, for example, or once suggested his mother’s parenting was so deficient that she might have deserved a jail sentence — this is both cruelly unjust to the individuals and damaging to the institution they represent”. Dench concluded, “No one is a greater believer in artistic freedom than I, but this cannot go unchallenged.”
