What Led To The Breakup Between Nicole Kidman And Tom Cruise?
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman met in 1989 while shooting for ‘Days of Thunder’, a film in which they both starred. They married in 1990 and adopted a daughter and a son. But in 2001, the couple announced their separation.
Former high-ranking church officer Mike Rinder has revealed certain things about their breakup in his new book ‘A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology‘. Cruise has been a part of the church of Scientology for a long time.
According to Page Six, Cruise and Kidman were filming Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut‘ in 1997. The book states that the ‘Top Gun‘ star was ignoring Scientology head David Miscavige’s calls at that time.
This prompted Miscavige to send Marty Rathbun, a church executive, to audit Cruise and “clear” the negativity in his life. Cruise “was gradually drawn back into the world of Scientology,” Rinder writes. According to him, this “created a distance between [Cruise] and Nicole.”

Kidman Did Not Want To Be A Part Of Scientology
Kidman was brought to the church of Scientology but “never expressed particular eagerness for her Scientology courses or auditing.” Rinder writes that her father being a psychiatrist didn’t help as the church doesn’t believe in them.
“Had she not been Mrs. Tom Cruise, she would not have been eligible to participate in OT levels at all due to her familial connection to psychiatry,” he writes.
The church began to realize that Kidman’s influence might lead Cruise to leave the church. So “Rathbun worked with [Hollywood lawyer] Bert Fields to hire infamous PI Anthony Pellicano to spy on Nicole and tap her phone.”
The book also claims that the church turned the couple’s two adopted children against Kidman by indoctrinating them with their teachings.
