Ana De Armas has made a name for herself in Hollywood in a short period of time. The Spanish-Cuban actress did some films in her native language initially before moving to Los Angeles. Over the past few years, she has done several successful films and even earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress.
Born in Havana, Cuba to Spanish immigrant parents, Ana spoke fluent Spanish. But she did not know the English language. In order to have a successful career in Hollywood, she had to learn English. Recently, the 34-year-old revealed how she learned the new language. So let’s find out.

Ana De Armas Gives An ‘SNL’ Monologue
On Saturday, Ana De Armas made her debut on ‘Saturday Night Live‘ and gave a monologue. According to Variety, the ‘Blonde‘ star greeted the packed audience in her native Spanish language.
“Gracias, gracias,” she said and told everyone that she is really happy to host SNL. She also unveiled how difficult it was for her to learn English in the initial phase of her career in the US.

“I speak English but I didn’t when I first got to the U.S.“, she said. “I was born in Cuba. I came to America when I was 26, and I learned English the way everyone who comes to this country does: by watching ‘Friends.’”

Ana Eventually Got Her First Hollywood Role
Later in her monologue, the actress joked: “Who would have thought that the best English tutor would be Chandler Bing?” She then mimicked the iconic life from the sitcom. “I mean look at me now; could I be any better at English?”
Ana spent around four months learning English and memorizing the phonetics of the language. She eventually bagged her first Hollywood project, the psychological thriller ‘Knock Knock‘ with Keanu Reeves.
Ana will be next seen in the action thriller ‘Ballerina‘ in which she will play the titular assassin. The film is a spin-off of Reeves ‘John Wick‘ franchise and is slated to release on June 7, 2024.
