Perry said a lot of things in his new memoir, and one of the things isn’t sitting well with people across the globe. He asked why Keanu Reeves is still around when many creative people like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger are dead.

Now, in a statement issued by People magazine, “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”

Perry’s book mentions no real clarification as to why he mentioned Reeves’ name in that fashion. Reeves and Perry have not done any film or television show together.

The ‘Speed‘ actor had co-starred with Phoenix in 1991’s My Own Private Idaho. Since the latter’s death due to an overdose, Reeves has been open about the grief that the loss has caused him.

In his book, Perry wrote about the late actor and his friend River Phoenix, “Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

Perry made his first film, ‘A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon’, in 1988 with Reeves’ long-time friend, Phoenix. The ‘Friends‘ actor played Phoenix’s best friend in the film.

Phoenix passed away from an overdose at age 23 in 1993. Perry wrote: “River was a beautiful man inside and out and too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down.”

He also wrote about the time when Phoenix died outside the Viper Room in West Hollywood. He wrote: “I heard the screaming from my apartment; went back to bed; woke up to the news.”
