‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘, also known as ‘Shazam 2‘, was one of the most anticipated superhero films of this year from DC. Its predecessor was a major critical and commercial success, so expectations were sky-high. However, the film bombed at the box office and has been panned by critics.
David F. Sandberg, the director of the film, has said that he is “done with superheroes for now.” He put out a series of tweets to talk about his experience making these films and also wrote about his future projects. So let’s find out the details of what Sandberg had to say.

‘Shazam 2’ Director David F. Sandberg Is Tired Of Superheroes
‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods‘, also known as ‘Shazam 2‘, hit the theatres last week while carrying a lot of anticipation. However, the film met with mixed to negative reviews and bombed at the box office.
The film’s director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter recently to talk about it in a series of tweets. “On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film,” he tweeted.
On Rotten Tomatoes I just got my lowest critic score and my highest audience score on the same film 🤷♂️ I wasn’t expecting a repeat of the first movie critically but I was still a little surprised because I think it’s a good film. Oh well.

He then said that he is eager to go back to his favorite genre, horror, and he also wants to try new things. “After six years of ‘Shazam’ I’m definitely done with superheroes for now.”
Sandberg further wrote that he will be “disconnecting from the superhero discourse” on the internet. “A lot of that stresses me out so much and it will be nice not having to think about that anymore”, he wrote.

The Film Has Received An Underwhelming Response
Made on a budget of around $110-120 million, the film has failed to recover its cost in its first week of theatrical run. Unlike the first one, it has also been panned by a majority of critics.
In the same thread, Sandberg said that he doesn’t “regret even for a second making the Shazam movies.” Stating that he has learned so much in the process and got to meet several wonderful people.
Looking at the response to the film amid a cash crunch, Warner Bros. is unlikely to give a green light to its third installment. Before helming this franchise, Sandberg made two well-received horror films, ‘Lights Out‘ and ‘Annabelle: Creation.’
