HBO’s post-apocalyptic series ‘The Last Of Us‘ has without a doubt become one of the most successful and critically acclaimed shows of this year. Its final episode, which aired on Sunday, got 8.2 million viewers across all HBO platforms.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, last week the show received 8.1 million views. The channel has revealed that the first six episodes enjoyed a total of 30.4 million viewers since its premiere.

Its first episode closed in on around 40 million viewers. This means that it has surpassed the viewership of another flagship HBO series, ‘House of the Dragon.’ The fantasy series enjoyed 29 million views across all platforms last year.

The impressive rating of the final episode, which aired around the same time as the 2023 Oscars, is really telling about the show’s appeal.

Even though the first season has been well received, audiences have complained about the lack of scenes featuring the zombies/infecteds. Especially those who have enjoyed the video game.

Series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have assured everyone that the second season will have “a lot more infected“. “Ultimately, we generally stressed the power of relationships and trying to find significance within moments of action,” Mazin said.

He continued: “And so there may be less action than some people wanted because we couldn’t necessarily find significance for quite a bit of it, or [there was] concern that it would be repetitive.”
