James Cameron is one of the most successful filmmakers of all time. He has directed some of the biggest films of all time, including the first two ‘Terminator‘ films, ‘Titanic‘ and ‘Avatar‘. He is now gearing up for the release of his upcoming sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water.’
The film was in the making for more than a decade because of its cutting-edge technology. After multiple delays, it will release on December 16. Cameron recently gave an interview where he talked about his films and their message, and theatrical experience, among other things.
James Cameron Talks About ‘Avatar 2’
James Cameron has been working on his passion project, ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ and it will finally release this year after several delays. The 68-year-old filmmaker recently talked about it in detail.
In an interview with The New York Times, the ‘Terminator‘ director talked about climate change message of the first ‘Avatar‘ film. “I certainly wasnโt the only voice back then, and Iโm certainly not the only voice now, telling people that they have to change,โ he said.
“Asking people to fundamentally change their behavior patterns, itโs like asking them to change their religion.โ Cameron continued, “Eventually, we will change or weโll die out.ย Avatar is not trying to tell you what to do specifically.โ
He added, โItโs just reminding us of what weโre losing. And it puts us back in touch with that childlike state of wonder about the natural world. As long as that beauty still resonates within us, thereโs hope.โ

Cameron Emphasizes On Watching ‘Avatar 2’ In The Theatres
A lot has changed since the first ‘Avatar‘ hit the theaters in 2009 and Cameron knows that. Streaming services saw a boom, especially during the pandemic. He addressed this matter as well.
โWeโve got a turn of the world toward easy access in the home, and that has to do a lot with the rise of streaming in general, and the pandemic, where we literally had to risk our lives to go to the movie theater,โ he said.
He said that there has been a โresurgence of the theater experienceโ lately. “People are craving that,โ Cameron said. โItโs slowly building back. Partly itโs been because of a dearth of top titles that people would want to see in a theater. But ‘Avatar’ย is the poster child for that. This is the type of film that you have to see in a theater.โ
‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ will follow three sequels that are slated to release in 2024, 2026, and 2028 respectively. Cameron will not be directing the last two sequels of the franchise.
